The double tenors and doubles seconds are the alto voices and are used as melody, harmony, and strumming instruments in the steelband. They have a typical range of 2 1/2 octaves from F#3 (below middle C) to A5 above the treble clef staff. The double tenor has a slightly brighter timbre due to it's shorter skirt.
